Chapter 372: Leaving the City
Chapter 372: Leaving the City
Savinia had already left Storm City with the Spatial Ring containing the Goddess’s Tears.
Li Wei was also preparing to leave.
He looked at Elizabeth curiously and asked, "The defenses in Storm City are so tight. How did you get in?"
Elizabeth said, "The defenses weren’t this tight when we came in."
"A section of the city wall collapsed from the aftershocks of the Forbidden Curse. The Defense Magic Array there was destroyed, so Savinia and I slipped in through the opening."
"Now the breach has been repaired, so we can’t get out that way anymore."
Li Wei asked, "So what will you do?"
Elizabeth said, "I’m just a clone. It doesn’t matter if I die in Storm City."
"If possible, I’ll try to slip out of Storm City when the Divine Hall of Light eases its lockdown."
"If I really can’t get out, it’s fine. It won’t be a huge loss."
In truth, being unable to leave Storm City was far from the trivial matter Elizabeth made it out to be.
To enter the city and search for the Goddess’s Tears, Elizabeth had brought most of her Power with her.
From a purely Power-based perspective, the body outside the city was more like the clone.
If the Elizabeth inside the city were to die, the one outside would survive, but her strength would plummet by more than half.
Her Power would drop from Tier Six Peak straight to Tier Six Middle Stage.
The loss would be catastrophic.
She didn’t tell Li Wei any of this.
Li Wei nodded. "Then I’ll see you around. I’m off."
"Goodbye."
Elizabeth watched Li Wei depart, then turned and vanished into the city.
She had a premonition that she wouldn’t be able to survive in Storm City for much longer.
Her presence had been left in the same place where the Goddess’s Tears had been.
If the Priests from the Divine Hall of Light had been there, they would likely sense her presence and could then follow the trail to track her down.
A Ghost captured by a Priest from the Divine Hall of Light would have almost no Power to resist.
Elizabeth headed in the opposite direction from Li Wei.
As Li Wei reached the city gate, a Bright Knight blocked his path.
"Honorable Mage, why are you leaving Storm City?" the Bright Knight asked.
Li Wei looked at him and retorted, "I’m a Mage from the Elemental Tower. Are you saying I can’t go back?"
Upon hearing this, the Bright Knight quickly replied, "So you are an honorable Mage from the Elemental Tower. Please cooperate with the Divine Hall of Light’s inspection and hand over all your spatial storage items."
Li Wei’s eyes narrowed as he stared at the Bright Knight.
"What? You want to go through my personal belongings? Who gave you people from the Divine Hall of Light the nerve to search the private property of a Mage from the Elemental Tower?"
He couldn’t afford to show any weakness now.
The more cautious he acted, the more suspicious he would seem.
The Bright Knight felt immense pressure under Li Wei’s aggressive questioning.
He felt the oppressive weight of a powerful Mage’s Spiritual Power.
Just then, a Priest from the Divine Hall of Light approached.
The Priest smiled and said, "Mage Li Wei, why so angry? Has something happened?"
Hearing this, the Bright Knight turned and quickly bowed. "Lord Priest."
Li Wei turned and saw it was a familiar face.
Priest Elis had met with Li Wei several times, so they knew each other.
Li Wei looked at Elis and said coolly, "I can accept the Divine Hall of Light conducting a search, but why do you need to inspect our Spatial Rings? Don’t you know that we Mages have many things that cannot be shown to others?"
Priest Elis quickly said, "Mage Li Wei, please don’t be alarmed. I apologize if we’ve done anything to offend you."
"We are only inspecting Spatial Rings to ensure no contraband leaves Storm City."
Li Wei feigned surprise. "Oh? What kind of contraband would cause the Divine Hall of Light to make such a scene? Don’t tell me it’s the Goddess’s Tears?"
Priest Elis shook his head. "Mage Li Wei, please don’t speculate. The Divine Hall of Light has already recovered the Goddess’s Tears. This is about some other classified contraband."
Li Wei sneered inwardly. ’Like I’d believe that crap. These priests are full of it; you can’t trust a single word they say.’
Seeing Li Wei’s insistence on not having his Spatial Ring inspected, Priest Elis spoke up.
He said, "How about this, Mage Li Wei? If you open the Spatial Ring, we can just use a Detection Divine Skill to confirm there’s no contraband inside."
Li Wei’s expression relaxed slightly, but he didn’t agree right away.
Instead, he hesitated for a long moment before putting on an air of reluctant agreement.
"Since you’re asking, Elis, I’ll let you take a look."
"There’s no way I have any contraband in my Spatial Ring!" Li Wei declared.
He took out his Spatial Ring and opened it.
He allowed the power of the Detection Divine Skill cast by Priest Elis to enter his Spatial Ring.
A moment later, Elis shook his head, indicating he had found nothing.
Then he used a Detection Divine Skill on Li Wei himself, and his eyes flickered.
"Mage Li Wei, you have other Spatial Rings on you."
Li Wei put on a thoughtful expression, then pulled a few more rings from his pocket after a moment.
"Oh, I’d almost forgotten about these. I barely use them, so I didn’t even remember I had them."
Hearing this, the corner of Priest Elis’s eye twitched.
’Is he showing off?’
In truth, he suspected that Li Wei was hiding something in one of his Spatial Rings.
Although Lancelot had never said he was suspicious of Li Wei, he had instructed Elis to have Li Wei watched.
From this, Elis knew the relationship between Lancelot and Li Wei wasn’t as cordial as it seemed.
He guessed that Lancelot must be suspicious of Li Wei.
After checking the other Spatial Rings in Li Wei’s hand, he looked disappointed.
There was no trace of the Goddess’s Tears.
"Take care, Mage Li Wei," Priest Elis said.
Li Wei simply shook his head without a word, wearing a look of utter displeasure as he walked out of the city.
The Bright Knight looked at Priest Elis, seeming to want to say something but holding his tongue.
"Lord Priest, is this really all right?"
He meant, was it right to let Li Wei go without a more thorough inspection of his Spatial Rings?
"What if the item was hidden in one of his Spatial Rings?"
Elis replied, "I checked. There was no trace of the Goddess’s Tears."
Li Wei left Storm City and headed toward the Teleportation Array.
From the city wall, Elis watched Li Wei below. Only after seeing him actually use the array to return to the Elemental Tower did he turn and leave.
Li Wei’s Illusory Body teleported back to the Elemental Tower.
Meanwhile, his real body, wearing the Invisibility Cloak, was stealthily making its way toward the Ten Thousand Corpses Pit.
Inside the Divine Hall of Light, after Lancelot had finished dealing with several days’ worth of headaches, he thought of someone.
He summoned an attendant and asked, "Where is Li Wei?"
"Reporting to the Grand Archbishop, Mage Li Wei left the Divine Hall before the Miracle Ceremony and his whereabouts are unknown."
Lancelot’s eyes narrowed. "Find him!"
