Chapter 296 - 293: Want to Make an Issue Out of This?
A desperate voice cried out in Clara’s heart, ’It’s over!’
’It’s definitely, absolutely over!’
’Who was it that said whoever falls in love first is the one who loses?’
’What’s more, she was in a fake marriage—a game that wasn’t supposed to be taken seriously. Now she was the one who had developed genuine feelings. If she wasn’t doomed, who was?’
’If Seth Quinn found out she’d fallen for him, would he laugh at her for being so foolish and getting too invested?’
’Would he even remind her not to waste so much emotion and energy on him and their marriage?’
’And now, of all times, Autumn Shelby was back!’
’So, she absolutely could not fall in love with Seth Quinn!’
A million thoughts raced through Clara’s mind in a split second. Then, Miles Quinn was pulling her away from his chest. When he saw who it was, he looked confused. "Clara?"
He had thought it was some clumsy person, or maybe a starstruck fangirl on set trying to hit on him by "accidentally" running into him. He never expected it to be her.
He’d been around Clara enough to get to know her a little. While she was cheerful and lively, she wasn’t the clumsy type. ’What’s going on with her today?’
Miles Quinn’s voice snapped Clara back to reality. She noticed his hands were still gripping her shoulders and felt a strange sense of discomfort. She quickly and subtly took a step back, putting some distance between them.
A smile touched Miles Quinn’s lips and eyes as he teased her playfully. "Clara, is a wolf chasing you? You weren’t even watching where you were going."
Clara caught the teasing in his voice. Recalling how she had deliberately run into him to test her own feelings, she blushed and apologized. "I’m sorry, Miles. I was in a rush to get to the set and didn’t see you..."
Lying didn’t come naturally to her, so her voice trailed off.
Miles Quinn didn’t seem to mind. He just smiled. "You really are a dedicated student! Always hanging around the set, even when you don’t have scenes. Go on, I’m heading to makeup."
"Oh, okay."
Clara watched Miles Quinn go into the makeup room before lowering her head again, walking distractedly toward the set, lost in thought.
"Clara Grant."
She had only taken a few steps when someone called her name. A pair of red high heels came into view.
Clara stopped instinctively and looked up. Sandra’s face filled her vision.
Unlike every other time they’d met—when Sandra would scowl at her like she was a mortal enemy—today her face was wreathed in a wide smile.
But behind that broad smile was an even thicker layer of smugness, disdain, and provocation.
Clara froze for a second before her expression returned to normal.
She stood her ground, meeting Sandra’s gaze calmly. After all, with Sandra targeting her daily, she had grown used to this kind of treatment.
Seeing Clara’s composed demeanor, Sandra’s lips curled as she let out a cold snort. "Hmph. So that’s your secret. I was wondering how you could so perfectly capture Tina’s seductive glamour and that tainted, worldly air she got from working in those kinds of places."
She hadn’t finished her sentence, but Clara’s heart skipped a beat. ’Judging by her expression, did she see me run into Miles just now?’
’Is she trying to make a scene about it now?’
With these thoughts running through her head, Clara deliberately ignored the obvious sarcasm in Sandra’s tone. A faint smile touched her face as she parted her lips and said, "Thank you."
Sandra blinked. ’Thank you?’ She couldn’t believe Clara hadn’t understood the implication behind her words.
She lifted her chin slightly and snorted again. "Thank me for what?"
"For complimenting my acting, of course." Clara widened her big, innocent eyes. "Isn’t that what you were doing?"
