Chapter 155. Seraphina Ranks Up
Chapter 155. Seraphina Ranks Up
Seraphina woke up in her bed three days later, feeling more refreshed than she had in over a decade. It was tiring work, drawing out spell models, copying magical text, or writing out her novel with perfect penmanship while using her mana to enchant the page. Add to that the fact that she had been doing it for over 96 years, and it becomes understandable that she would try to rush her final decade.
She sat up, feeling the distinct, familiar sensation of moving her body, something she hadn’t done for over three days, as her motor functions slowly returned. It was an experience she often had when staying up to push through her daily grind, giving her a sense of an out-of-body experience.
She checked her status one final time, seeing Scribing at level 3. Nodding to herself in satisfaction, she initiated the Rank Up immediately, unwilling to wait for a bath or a meal.
Her vision drew inward, plunging deep into her soul, into a world of golden flames teeming with life and pale green flames that burned with death. A moment later, it was covered by a transparent blue status screen displaying her list of available classes.
Rank 3: Phoenix Mage
Rank 3: Battle Alchemist
Rank 2: Scribe
Rank 2: Archivist
Rank 2: Potioneer
.
.
.
Without much thought, she selected Scribe, already expecting poor options. After nearly a century spent stagnating in her room in the castle, she knew she lacked the experiences needed to attain new, more powerful, and overall better classes. It was obvious she wouldn’t get anything better than what she had been aiming for.
[Divine License]: Grants the divine right to copy class skills. Scrolls the user creates, copies, or manipulates have increased resistance to damage and deterioration. Greatly increases mana regeneration.
[Copy Scroll]: Copy a skill scroll onto a blank page. Consumes health, stamina, or mana equal to the cost to use the skill. The page’s materials must be equal to or greater in Rank than the source material. The Rank of the target must be equal to or lower than the user’s own Rank. Applies to spells and ordinary scrolls.
[Copy Skill]: Copy a skill from a status screen onto a blank page. Consumes health, stamina, or mana equal to the cost to use the skill. The page’s materials must be equal to or greater in Rank than the target skill. The rank of the target skill must be equal to or lower than the user’s own Rank.
[Repair Scroll]: Repair a skill scroll. Additional health, stamina, mana, or materials may be required depending on the severity of the damage to the target. Applies to spells and ordinary scrolls.
[Skill Library]: Stores a skill from a skill scroll or the status screen in the mind, allowing Copy Skill to be used later. Consumes health, stamina, or mana equal to the cost to use the skill. Limited to skills equal to or below the user’s own Rank.
[Skill Projection]: Cast a stored skill directly from the Skill Library or a skill scroll without additional resources. The stored skill or skill scroll is consumed upon use. Limited to skill scrolls equal to or below the user’s own Rank.
“I guess the Goddess of Brilliance didn’t mind me getting this class,” Seraphina said as she read the Divine License ability.
The Scribe class was closer to a holy class, similar to paladin, priest, or priestess, than to classes like archivist, scholar, or grand scholar. It was a class that required permission from the gods to be granted, which was why she was perfect for it.
By itself, the Scribe class was a money-printing machine, so it was without question that Seraphina would want it. More importantly, she had a connection with the Goddess of Brilliance, who had a high chance of allowing her to receive this class, given that she was the Goddess’s hero.
Seraphina thought she had a pretty good chance of getting the class after everything that had happened with the Demon Lord. Worst-case scenario, she would have taken Rank 2: Archivist, which was the same class except it applied only to spell scrolls.
As for the skills she received, there were a lot of rules, but the class was exactly as Seraphina had expected. Essentially, she could now start producing her own skill scrolls, so long as she used the right materials.
This meant she only needed one copy of a certain skill or spell scroll to provide it to everyone, saving them plenty of money on duplicates. She could also try to sell any skill or spell scroll she managed to make. She could even fast-track the mass production of her own novels, so long as she had the materials for it.
“I definitely need to visit the Mage’s Guild after this,” Seraphina said with a wide smile, then accepted the Scribe class.
Her vision slowly cleared, the class details receding until the familiar contours of her room came back into focus. She was on her bed, exactly where she should have been, though her body felt anything but normal. Her stomach twisted sharply, protesting three long days without a proper meal.
The rest of her condition told a different story. Despite not bathing for days, there was no trace of sweat or stale odor clinging to her, and she was far cleaner than she had any right to be. Elyra clearly hadn’t neglected her during her mini coma.
“Elyra,” Seraphina called out.
The shadows by her bedside warped in response as Elyra emerged, prim and proper in her main outfit.
“You’re awake,” Elyra said with a relieved smile. “You must be hungry.”
“Starving. Do you have anything ready? I’ll take literally anything you have right now.”
“I have prepared your favorite dishes to celebrate your Rank Up.”
“You’re the best, Ely,” Seraphina cheered as a lavish spread appeared on a bed tray in front of her.
Seraphina’s eyes widened as she took in the sight. The tray was covered with steaming dishes that looked both familiar and otherworldly. There were glowing onigiri that shimmered with a faint golden light, their rice perfectly plump and sticky, filled with enchanted umeboshi that tingled pleasantly on the tongue.
Next to them, tempura vegetables floated slightly above their platter, crackling softly as if lightly toasted by magical flames, while miso soup swirled in shifting colors, the broth shimmering with threads of enchanted kelp and tiny sparkles of mana that gave it a subtle warmth with every sip.
Seraphina’s gaze fell on a platter of sashimi-like fish that glimmered like liquid silver, its flesh impossibly tender yet brimming with a faint, sweet glow that hinted at both freshness and subtle magical enhancement. Alongside it, enchanted takoyaki rolled gently on their plate, puffed golden and glowing faintly with an internal warmth that made the octopus inside perfectly soft and juicy.
“There’s also yakitori, soba, and matcha sweets,” Elyra added.
Seraphina didn’t hesitate and immediately dug in, devouring the delicious spread. She knew that all the seafood, except the fish, was actually different meats flavored with the artificial seasoning she had created herself. But she didn’t care, every dish was absolutely delicious.
The Kingdom of Brilliance had no access to the sea, so seafood was practically unheard of. Merchants occasionally sold it to nobility, but the prices were so absurd that Seraphina refused to buy them on principle. Instead, she spent years recreating the flavors from memory through alchemy, and her efforts had met with considerable success.
Midway through her meal, she felt boundless strength course through her, each bite fanning the budding fire within. She checked her stats and found they were increasing by leaps and bounds.
“Your new class is so OP, Ely,” Seraphina exclaimed, her face shifting to concern. “You must have been cooking these for years to get permanent stats on them.”
“It was well worth the effort. Besides, the castle’s maids and guards seemed to enjoy the spares. You’ll have to make more of your special artificial flavors.”
“Like you said, it’s well worth the effort,” Seraphina said, continuing to eat while empowering herself.
Once Seraphina finished eating, she took a long, luxurious bath to clear her mind after the exhausting ordeal of her training. Afterward, she met with Bastion and the others to show them her new class.

Seraphina had plenty of time on her hands before she took the Rank Up, so unlike the others, she had a full complement of level 6 arts and skills. Right from the start, her stats were 50% to 100% higher than normal, thanks to Elyra’s food, which granted permanent status points.
As for her level, she was the highest of them all, surpassing Elyra, who spent her time hunting for ingredients, and Ariel, who explored the kingdom for fun. It clearly demonstrated how difficult it was to level up from Rank 2, often requiring armies just to gain a single level.
“Your new class is amazing, Seraphina,” Bastion said, placing his hand on her cheek and gently rubbing it with his thumb. “It has everything you could possibly need and then some. It’ll even help you mass-produce your novels. Congratulations.”
“Thanks,” she replied with a smile, appreciating the affection.
Sex had been on the back burner for the past decade due to her obsession with reaching Scribe level 3, but it had never caused any tension between them, since Bastion had his own hands full most of the time. Now, she could perhaps get back in the saddle and maintain a regular schedule. After all, he wasn’t the only one missing out on the fun.
“So, are we finally going forward with our traveling merchant plan?” she asked.
“Long story short, yes, but there are still some requirements,” Bastion answered.
