Chapter 127: Siblings
Chapter 127: Siblings
When the two Reapers reached the place, they were surprised to see its surroundings brightly lit by the light bulbs that were hung outside.
’Beautiful...’ Seraph felt a lump in his throat, finally returning home after many years. It just wasn’t under the right circumstance.
"Get ready. We’re entering through the backdoor," Agent-YN said to him, getting ready to move.
Seraph tightened his grip on his spear and prepared to swing it at her. However—
Clang!
He was forced to block a sword that came flying at him, almost sending him flying.
Agent-YN was surprised and quickly reacted, her gaze snapping towards the person who had attacked him.
From the shadows, Sylvia stepped out, her expression cold.
"Damned Reapers. You want to kill someone? I’m not letting you!"
Seraph was stunned by her appearance, as she was the last thing he expected to see at his house.
’Wait. If she’s here, then...’
Clang! Agent-YN clashed with Sylvia, and was immediately pushed back. Sylvia was obviously stronger than her, having reached the Peak Master Stage in cultivation.
Meanwhile, Agent-YN was destined to lose, as she was only an Initial Master Stage cultivator.
Still, Seraph needed to join the battle as Agent-YX. At least he needed to pretend he was trying his best and putting in a great effort to fight off Sylvia.
Switching his spear for a different one so she wouldn’t recognize it, he dashed at her and swung his weapon at the same time Agent-YN did with her sword.
Clang!
Sylvia effortlessly blocked their combined attacks, though she was starting to get annoyed.
"Go to hell, you bastards!"
She stomped on the ground, and several earth spikes shot up, almost impaling the duo as they frantically dodged.
Seraph’s lips twitched behind the mask, and he immediately dashed at the girl again, pretending to seriously engage her while he was merely testing her skills.
’Has she slacked off in my absence? Hm, let’s see.’
The two of them fought for a while, then Agent-YN joined in again.
’Alright. I think we’ve fought enough. When is she going to give the order to retreat?’
Since it was obvious that they were going to lose to Sylvia, why hadn’t Agent-YN given the order to retreat yet?
’Could it be some girly spat or something?’ He thought, lowering his head slightly.
Thankfully, Agent-YN soon signaled to him to retreat. However, she didn’t move an inch, which surprised him.
’What the hell are you doing? Want to get killed? That’s Sylvia for you! A top disciple of the Core Court at the Soul Peak division of the Soul Cross Sect.’
Feeling like he had hyped Sylvia enough, he glanced at his fellow Reaper and asked softly, "Agent?"
She glanced back at him and replied, "Go on, I’ll cover for you."
Seraph rolled his eyes and nodded, then stepped back. However, Sylvia seized the moment when Agent-YN was distracted and immediately stabbed her sword into the lady’s shoulder.
Then, she reached out and yanked the mask off her face.
A savage grin appeared on Sylvia’s face, "Finally saw the face of one of you bastards!"
Hearing this, Seraph was surprised and curious. He turned around to take a look. Then, he froze. The next moment, everything went dark.
............
’Disgusting bastards!’
Sylvia thought as she yanked away the mask covering the Reaper’s face. Surprisingly, the young lady was beautiful, with black hair and black eyes that reminded her of the Skye family.
She grinned, "Finally saw the face of one of you bastards!"
It was a pity, though. The other Reaper had already escaped. She wanted to capture that one too.
’Wait. He stopped?’
She saw the Reaper pause and look back, then he froze. He wasn’t staring at her, but at the other Reaper’s exposed face. Sylvia felt a chill run down her spine, and she couldn’t help but shiver.
’What... is this pressure...?’
A thick, suffocating pressure burst out from the masked guy, and before she could register it, a punch was knocked into her gut with controlled force.
She folded slightly and staggered backwards with a grunt.
"Ugh."
Ignoring her, the masked guy turned to his exposed counterpart and pulled out the sword from her shoulder. He dropped it to the ground, then lifted her in a princess carry.
Before Sylvia could regain her balance, he jumped into the air, and two wind blades appeared under his feet, propelling him into the darkness of the night.
’What was that about? He actually knocked me back with a punch. Was he pretending to be weak?’
She thought as she clutched her stomach and picked up her sword.
There were a lot of things that she was starting to notice. The unmasked Reaper’s face, the masked Reaper’s reaction, and his mode of escape.
The last one felt strangely familiar, but she failed to remember where she had seen it before.
"Whatever. At least they failed in their attack. I need to report this to the Patriarch."
............
Hundreds of meters away from the Moonveil Clan, Seraph finally stopped and lay the dazed Agent-YN on the ground.
Clarity slowly returned to his eyes, and he realized what he had done.
’Good thing I saved her, but punching Sylvia wasn’t necessary, was it?’
He thought with a wry smile, then looked at the lady on the ground before him.
’Yelena... how?’
It was his own elder sister. The black hair, black eyes, and unmistakable expression. It couldn’t be anyone but her.
’How is it that you’re a Reaper?!’
Seraph had joined voluntarily under the cover of the Soul Cross Sect Master. However, he didn’t know how the others joined. Did they just go into the woods and shout: ’I want to be a Reaper!’?
"Agent-YX, where is my mask?" Yelena’s voice snapped him out of his daze.
"I didn’t... pick it up," He answered.
She seemed surprised, then nodded, "I see."
Seraph observed her lying on the ground for a moment, then asked, "Yelena? Do you know that name?"
She blinked, then shook her head, "No. Why?"
Seraph’s heart sank, and he realized that her memory had been wiped.
’She doesn’t even remember her true self.’
He laid on the ground beside her, staring into the night sky. Then, he started.
"I knew you before you became a Reaper."
Yelena’s eyes widened, and she turned to look at him in surprise, "Before...?"
"Hm, before," He nodded. "Every one of you Reapers are always curious about your past identities, right? I will tell you yours."
Seeing her turn and listen carefully, he continued.
"Your name is Yelena Skye of the Moonveil Clan. Your parents are Clem Skye and Kara Skye. You have a little brother—Seraph Skye, which is me. And you have another brother now. Jayde Skye—the one you tried to kidnap tonight."
Yelena continued staring at him, then she shook her head, "Doesn’t match what I’ve been told."
Hearing this, Seraph’s eyes narrowed, "What you’ve been told?"
She nodded, "When you achieve an higher rank, you’re given the chance to know about the life you lived before becoming a Reaper."
Seraph frowned deeply, "So what was the story you were told?"
Yelena fell silent for a moment, then answered him.
"I was a killer. I was raised by my dad in a local city on the eastern parts of the Orchid Province. When I matured, he tried to force himself on me, and that was when I killed him. Although the city guards understood that he was trying to rape me, they still arrested me for commiting murder."
She sighed, looked up at the sky, then continued, "I was in that prison when the city was raided by Reapers. The prisoners were free, and I was taken to be trained since my Manager saw my talent."
By the time she was done, Seraph was boiling with anger.
"What a carefully crafted storyline!" He said through gritted teeth, restraining the urge to tell.
"Look, whatever your superior told you was a lie. You are my sister, and Jayde is our brother whom we haven’t seen before."
She frowned faintly, "Is that so? Then let me see if there is any resemblance between us."
She reached out and pulled away his mask, which he didn’t resist.
Yelena stared at his white hair with a frown, feeling like he was delusional.
"You have white hair, and I have black. How does that correlate? We’re clearly not siblings."
She locked eyes with him, and felt something ache deep in her heart.
’Rainbow eyes... weird.’
She felt the slightest hint of nostalgia, and her eyelids trembled.
’What the... what am I feeling?’
An old, forgotten memory resurfaced from the depths of her soul.
"Boo!"
She remembered shouting at the hazy figure of a young baby, expecting a startled reaction from him. However, there was none. She couldn’t even see the baby’s features clearly.
Agent-YN’s eyes narrowed, ’This is strange. Now I have two different stories that seem real. After all, I’ve checked that city’s history and I know it was raided by Reapers about four years ago. If so... which one is true?’
