Chapter 478: Useless Backing
Idiot! Your master hasn’t even tried to kill him! Dale grimaced inwardly.
He only hoped Leo would let go of the matter regarding Zeira—his master and also a professor at Valencrest Academy—who had tried to kill Leo in order to gain Lily.
Oh shit! Is his girl also with him?!
Cold sweat once again covered Dale’s back as that thought surfaced in his mind. He just hoped that, like him, Leo had come alone. Because he knew dealing with Lily would be far more dangerous than dealing with Leo.
That girl was about to cut his hand off just because he placed it on Leo’s shoulder!
Leo understood what was going through Dale’s head and reassured him.
"I already forgave you for your wrongdoings last time," he said calmly.
Hearing that, Dale felt a wave of relief wash over him.
"But forgiving doesn’t mean forgetting. I would like to meet your master one day, so do trouble yourself when the time comes."
"O-of course, and please rest assured. I spoke with her, and she regretted her actions. I am sure she will give you a proper apology along with suitable compensation."
Throughout the conversation, Aaron was becoming more confused with every passing second. In the end, he couldn’t help but ask what had happened because the story sounded far too interesting.
Even though Dale was unwilling, Leo seemed unusually talkative today as he recounted the events of Trial City.
The more Aaron listened, the more dumbfounded he became. And that dumbfounded expression slowly turned into concern for Dale as Leo continued revealing more information.
"He was trying to add Lily to his harem. Do you see the guts on this guy?"
Aaron sharply turned toward Dale.
"What the fuck dude? Don’t even let that thought enter your head. I am telling you, she can hear the thoughts of the person standing in front of her. You are only getting yourself killed," he warned seriously. As someone with firsthand experience of Lily’s torture, he knew she wasn’t someone to trifle with.
"And what were you even thinking while doing that? Both of them are so strong that your resistance is useless against them. You would only face one-sided slaughter."
Leo casually sipped his tea while listening to Aaron reprimand Dale. Somehow, after talking this much about it, it actually felt good. It was like a relief session after so many days of serious talk.
"I was simply unaware of what I was dealing with!" Dale defended himself desperately.
He turned toward Leo again, stood up, and bowed deeply.
"I hope you will once again forgive my master and me. We were simply blinded by the sudden opportunity. If you want, I can even ask my master to compensate you with some high-level natural treasures."
Leo waved his hand dismissively.
"It’s alright. But yes, I will indeed pay your master a visit someday."
Dale sighed in relief. At the very least, his life seemed safe for now.
Leo then headed toward the restaurant’s bar to try a custom drink while the two men were left alone.
"I cannot afford to make an enemy of a man who can shatter Pseudo 3-star Rock Golems with his bare punches and possesses such a fearsome beast," Dale muttered quietly.
But Aaron immediately caught onto it.
"Shattering Pseudo 3-star Rock Golems with punches? What are you talking about?"
"You don’t know? Ah... that’s understandable. Maybe he didn’t reveal his full strength in the competition. But Sir Leo managed to kill a Mid 3-star Rootspire Behemoth back during the academy trial. Can you believe it? A Mid 3-star! And he doesn’t even look 25!"
"What are you talking about? Just a Mid 3-star? Wait, do you even know what rank he holds in the academy and what his rumoured strength is?"
Dale shook his head.
"Actually, no. I had been busy managing my territory and training under the Master. I still haven’t looked into the other academies."
"You are a complete idiot. I know you like snatching other men’s women, but at least pick your targets carefully and do a proper background check!"
"Bastard, he is ranked 1st in the academy! 1st!" Aaron heavily stressed the final word.
"What the fuck? Didn’t one of the 3 Imperial Princes join the academy? How is he first?!"
"I don’t know about the Imperial Princes. Maybe 2 of them joined Velerath Grand Academy. But he is first! And he displayed strength in the 5-star realm! And I am pretty sure Professor Brant or Professor Katherine is backing him. Do you even understand what that means? Your master’s backing is worth shit in front of theirs!"
Dale felt as if the ground beneath his feet had shattered after hearing that revelation. But Aaron’s next words made him want to go back in time and slap the version of himself that had tried to pick Leo.
"And his girl—Lily—she is ranked 3rd and commands two Low 3-star Spirit Beasts! And we already know she is a Spirit Caller, they have that monstrous attribute share! We are nothing compared to them. You are lucky he forgave you. Now get your master’s head straight and prepare a hefty compensation package for whatever she orchestrated to kill him."
But Aaron still wasn’t done.
"And do you know something else?"
Dale gulped nervously. Judging from Aaron’s expression, whatever came next definitely wasn’t good.
"I was fucking sliced open from head to toe in front of the entire academy just because I laughed at his looks back in the common room! And it was none other than Lily who did it to me. You should consider yourself lucky that you’re still alive."
By then, Leo returned carrying his custom drink made from mixed fruits and a special ingredient.
Both men smiled at him as the conversation continued.
"Would you be willing to establish a connection through my Jade Slip? That way, I could inform you whenever I come across high-level treasures that I am unable to retrieve because of some high-ranked beast guarding them."
Leo felt the idea wasn’t bad, but there was one issue.
"You are from a different academy. Is this even allowed?"
"Why wouldn’t it be? It was our abilities that allowed us to establish friendly relations with our supposed enemies. Of course it’s allowed," Dale replied.
"By the way, where is Ronan? I don’t see him around," Leo asked, wondering if he might be elsewhere since he wasn’t in the training arena.
"Maybe he is with Vulcan. I didn’t see him either," Aaron replied.
"Vulcan?" Leo asked, having never heard that name before.
But before he could get an answer, his phone suddenly buzzed.
The moment he saw the message was from Lyswenna, his expression darkened.
