Chapter 347: Meeting The Grim Reaper.
Chapter 347: Meeting The Grim Reaper.
"I heard you are looking for me?" Thoren asked as he sat across from the three figures with a cold, indifferent expression.
Staring at the silver haired, blue eyed young man seated across from them, the three instantly became tense.
Celene, Cyras, and Garric had their muscles stiffened. Especially for Cyras, he swallowed hard as the weakest of the trio.
The aura around the Grim Reaper was something they never expected, and it pressed against their nerves without mercy.
They had expected to see a weak Necromancer, depending on his undead servants’ strength to survive in the Crimson Dunes.
But now...
Celene took a deep breath and straightened her back. Even though they had been forcefully arrested by the guild members of the Crimson Arc Guild, she was not scared.
"You are a difficult person to find," she said slowly under her breath.
"It was as if you already knew of our coming?" she added, searching Thoren’s face while waiting to see any change in his expression, but to her shock, she found nothing.
He stared at her with the same cold and indifferent gaze, as if everything happening before him was already within his expectation.
"You must have been to Jackal Town..." Thoren said casually, but there was a subtle edge in his tone that made Celene and the others flinch.
"Do you know why you are still alive and kicking, and why you are having the privilege to talk to me?" Thoren asked softly. "It is because I want to hear it directly from you."
Suddenly, the temperature inside the small room dropped a couple of degrees, and the air became strangely oppressive.
He never threatened them.
He never withdrew any weapon.
Yet, Celene, Garric, and Cyras felt like a sharp blade was hanging at their necks, ready to slit their throats at any moment.
Gulp!
The three swallowed hard, and their earlier composure began to crumble little by little.
Celene’s previous confidence was now shaking. She had thought the Crimson Arc Guild would not harbor such an evil Necromancer, but reality was different from her thoughts.
Even when they were brought here by the guild members, she was not scared.
Apart from Solenne, she did not believe anyone among the Crimson Arc Guild could take her down.
Thus, she still believed she had the chance of completing the mission, even after being forced into this room.
But now, she realized how wrong she was, even without seeing the Grim Reaper’s methods.
Her instinct was already screaming of imminent danger, warning her to be extremely careful.
This was an instinct that had saved her life many times in many life and death battles.
Thus, she did not take it for granted, and she quickly adjusted her attitude.
She prepared to open her mouth, only for Thoren to interrupt her.
"Did you do anything to them?" he asked, staring at her straight in the eyes.
She shook her head. "Although I was prompted to take them captive, I decided against it."
"Our mission is you and nothing else," Celene added, keeping her voice steady despite the pressure in the room.
"Good." Thoren nodded, his expression not changing. "So, are you part of the Slave Trade Guild or bounty hunters?"
"We are bounty hunters," Cyras responded this time, his voice slightly dry.
He and Celene had taken the mission. He knew the route to Jackal Town very well, while Celene was strong enough to handle any unforeseen incident on their way.
As for Garric, he was a third wheel, brought along because his abilities could still be useful under certain circumstances.
Thoren was not surprised by this. If they had been Slave Trade Guild members, their actions would have been more overbearing than this.
They would not have entered the town quietly, and more importantly, they would not have been so obvious about their mission.
Slave Trade Guild members operated in the dark. They manipulated, threatened, and made others do their bidding from the shadows.
And this was why Thoren had been patient with them from the beginning, despite already knowing they had come because of him.
Rising to his feet, Thoren walked to the window and looked outside.
Beyond the window, Mantis Town seemed unusually lively, with humans and Mantis men moving through the streets.
"Give me one reason why I should not kill you," he said softly. "Think carefully before you speak. You only have one chance."
Hmm?
Celene, Garric, and Cyras were stunned. Their eyes widened briefly before they slowly looked at each other.
Garric wanted to call his bluff, but when he remembered Thoren’s previous intimidating aura, he swallowed whatever was in his throat.
From what they saw in Jackal Town, he knew the young man before them was not a soft person.
Apart from that, his name, the Grim Reaper, was enough to show how ruthless he was.
Gulp!
Cyras forcefully swallowed the lump in his throat once again. Never in his wildest dreams did he expect a mission to bring back a newly ascended awakener would turn into having his life hanging in the balance.
Being the strongest among them, Celene’s mental capacity was strong, allowing her to recover quickly.
She stared at Thoren’s back and asked as calmly as possible.
"What do you want to know?"
They were bounty hunters. They did not have any affiliation with any guild or faction.
As long as this could save her neck and prevent future trouble, she would not mind telling him everything she knew.
Slowly, Thoren turned his head and looked at Celene for a moment. He realized she was flexible and quick to adapt to their situation.
He had expected them to fight back or even threaten him. But none of that happened.
"Tell me about your town and the hideout of the Slave Trade Guild there."
"Also, all the hideouts of the Slave Trade Guild near Mantis Town."
Although Solenne knew about the general workings of the factions acting in the Crimson Dunes, she did not know their deeper details.
But with these three, he could have a head start and know where to begin his attack.
Celene’s lips pressed together slightly as she understood the meaning behind his words.
This was not a simple question.
The moment she answered, she would be stepping into a deeper conflict between the Grim Reaper and the Slave Trade Guild.
However, if she refused to answer, she might not leave this room alive.
